FIS men’s slalom comes to Mutters, Innsbruck

Mutters, the ski holiday resort located above Innsbruck scored a coup today by hosting an FIS men’s slalom ski race. Only a couple of years ago the ski area of Mutters was the reserve of ski tourers since the old lift system had been decommissioned. Around 2 years ago there was substantial new investment in lifts and restaurant facilities. Since last winter the Mutters ski area has been connected to the newly revamped Gotzens ski area and plans are afoot to link these 2 areas to the impressive higher and bigger ski holiday resort of Axamer Lizum. Today saw another event that marks the re-emergence of Mutters as one of the leading ski holiday resorts around Innsbruck.

So amazing to see the big names skiers in the little ski area of Mutters – But small is beautiful in this case – such a pretty tree lined area! Perfect for me and my “few runs then a mulled wine” ski days

I hope the competitors did not refuel at the old hut near the top of the area . The mountain food I have eaten there is magnificent in its own calorie laden connonbal in the gut kind of way. I have always enjoyed this experience,

Hey Ben, time to get back over here, it has all changed at Mutters in the last 2 years, there is a new and really impressive restaurant at the top gondola station with great views, great food and great prices. Not nearly as rustic as the old Alm but a really great modern option. The food you will be pleased to hear is as calorie-laden as ever. Off to Ischgl tomorrow for some more early season powder and mayhem.
