Frejn’s Freeride Inferno – Ischgl

7th March 2009 – over 70 of Ischgl’s snowboarders and free skiers line up for a mass start downhill run. The 1 km decent is all off-piste and subject to last minute inspection before the race starts. The Frejn’s Freeride Inferno is followed by the “Grill & Chill” with video presentations of the race and a party round a fire in the high alpine. One of the better Freeride / off-piste events of the winter!
Matt, have you entered ? Englands next Graham Bell???
Sadly John I am not sure the back would hold up although I think I might be able to hold my own at the Austrian cocktail championships – http://www.ineedsnow.com/blog/snow-volleyball-freestyle-cocktail-st-anton/. Beach volleyball has never really been my thing but I have been known to frequent the odd bar, especially when clients are in the country.
Flo was here last year and beat everyone out of the sight with his break dancing at dawn next to the party fire – rumour has it that he is back this year and is very likely to race for ineedsnow and party for Austria.
make sure of some video footage ( dancing as well as race )
I will have to get Flo to wear my Elvis mask whilst performing the ‘windmill’ later on – he is keen to protect his professional standing in these parts. There should be some great footage from the Freeride Inferno itself, the Freeride Inferno is one of the top mass start off-piste freeride events in the region. It is heavily supported by the canned drink that keeps you awake and there are some really top skiers and snowboarders taking part. It is not a race for the feint hearted, there are some serious collisions taking place at the early gates and narrows.
you can find all the info and register to take part in the race on the website http://www.inferno.ws
2 years ago i had the pleasure to take part in the race. it was a last minute decission after a night of partying. it was really a great experience and the after party on the mountain lasted until very late (early).
if i take part this year i will definitely race for ineedsnow. stay tuned for some updates.
Well austrianlocal, you are assured gold for the after race party. It looks like a good deal of snow is forecast for the coming days and over the weekend. It should be a great route they select, I just hope that the options aren’t too limited by the increasing avalanche danger over the weekend.
So we have access to the event – this just through from Ischgl tourism:
“The race office is a tent at the doctor’s parking lot next to Silvrettabahn bottom station.”
I am assuming that the location is no coincidence
EARLY NIGHT FRIDAY AUSTRIANLOCAL !!!!!!
the wellness program for tonight has already been arranged. i am ready for tomorrow.
Perfect, this will be my first Freeride Inferno, I have read some great reports about it. Trust Ischgl to lay on a very cool event. The grill and chill also looks pretty impressive following the Freeride Inferno.
