Quotes of 08/09 – the Hotel Mondschein Stuben

OK, a few quotes of the winter and noting that one complaining blog user prefers pictures to words then there is a fair chance that this theme will get an easier ride :)

One of my favourite hotels in Austria is the Hotel Mondschein. This was from Finbar about the 20th year anniversary of a group of French skiers driving past almost every ski resort of significance to get to the Hotel Mondschein, Stuben am Arlberg:

“This is no Holiday Inn, this is the real Austrian experience. I could describe in detail, but actions speak louder than words, so how’s this? There was a party of a dozen hard core French off-piste skiers from Toulouse. Yes, they crossed a lot of alps to get to the Monschien and Stuben, but get this,… for the twentieth time! Enough said.”

It seems someone has just woken up after being slumped over their keyboard for the last several days, or is it under the desk where you get your naps? But fair point, the blog is a few days old, give me a few minutes and I will put that right. I had been hoping to be skiing the Stubai Glacier around now but with the skier now 6 days overdue, the glacier skiing has rather been put on hold.

    Mat -

Congratulations on the new addition to your family! Although I’m sad to hear that you would disown him if he were to enjoy snowboarding. Just kidding.

Anyways, I apologize that I haven’t been able to write back in a while as work/school had both gotten very busy. Last night I began worrying about the fact that I haven’t booked a hotel yet for my upcoming trip. Based on your previous post, I will likely stay in Innsbruck so as to take advantage of the nightlife. Can you provide recommendations as to specific hotels that I should stay at? As we discussed before I’d like to be able to take day trips to different glacial ski areas. Are there any hotels that provide easy access to this kind of transportation?

Looks like the Hotel Mondschein has been closed down for the year, according to their website. Otherwise that hotel looked amazing.

Thanks again for all your help. Enjoy your time with the little one!

Hey Matt, thanks for the congratulations, life has certainly changed somewhat in the last 5 days. Just to clarify, I am absolutely sure I would disown Josh for snowboarding but if he were to show up on a race / carving board (those things that are similar in shape to a fat powder ski) then I might be investigating the options of a DNA test to find out if we really are related :)

The Hotel Mondschein is about as good as you can get in terms of genuine Austrian hospitality – it is historic, full of character, managed by locals and serves the best powder skiing in Austria – all in all WOW!

Getting to the Stubai Glacier will be easy from Innsbruck, Solden and Hintertux will require a couple of changes but central Innsbruck should be fine – drop me an email with your exact dates and an idea of the quality of the accommodation you want and I will send through some options.

Maybe you could even take Josh snowboarding? No carver boards though !!!! :)
