Cuche rules for Switzerland at the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm, Austria

The misery continues for the Austrian men’s downhill racers as Swiss star Didier Cuche took the win at the 71st Hochkrimml men’s downhill race today. What might sooth the local’s was the weather with cold conditions, sun and plenty of fresh snow across the region. You can see the latest snow report from the slopes [...]

Two weeks before the 2010/11 Tirol Snow Card kicks in

Lots for not very much – the Tirol Snow Card is valid in 2 weeks time with access to 81 ski areas, over 960 lifts and 3100km of ski pistes. It runs from the 1st October until the 15th May. So lots of skiing for not much money (mine was 439 Euros last winter) and [...]

Après ski in Kitzbuhel – run from a man with dice in hand

Well I was asked to bring my après ski ‘A’ game to Kitzbuhel and Friday and that I did. John M and team were over on their annual pilgrimage to the snow. The reaction of Streifalm bar staff upon their arrival was something akin to the reception David Beckham must get upon walking into a [...]

Kitzbuhel and a dodgy guy with dice await my arrival – worried, very worried!

Some good friends / clients of ours are in Kitzbuhel this week on a wellness / ski holiday. The plan was to go and help one of the group with a couple of ski issues and then enjoy a quiet beer. After injuring my back I have been unable to ski since last weekend and [...]

Der Hahnenkamm Streif – the biggest mental and physical challenge in the sporting world?

Not in any way trying to diminish any other sport and those who excel in them but I have to make the case for those who compete in the annual mens downhill on the Streif course, Hahnenkamm, Kitzbuhel as being the maddest, most committed and overall ballsiest sportsmen (only men compete on the Streif) around. [...]

Slalom day in Kitzbuhel, mat skied the Streif whilst some Kirchbergers managed it in Nike sports shoes :)

I skied and reported from the Streif today as sections of it could be accessed from behind the safety barriers that course officials place across the most treacherous sections including the Mausefalle and the Steilhang. I was wearing a helmet although that was to mount the helmet camera we use; the list of race readiness [...]

Close but no cigar – the Swiss reign in Kitzbuhel but Austria have two on the podium

Just back from the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm where the weather produced great racing conditions. This morning the Kitzbuhel press office described the run-up to the race as anxious with stormy weather throughout the previous night but by the time of the race the Streif race course was in superb condition, whilst the skies were clear and [...]

mens super G – Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm 2009

Austria reigns on its most famous hill with Klaus Kröll taking top spot in the mens super G race on the Hahnenkamm, Kitzbuhel. Amongst the shock results was the poor showing of US legend Bode Miller coming in joint 21st.
1 – Klaus Kröll        AUT    1:12.78
2 – Aksel Lund Svindal    NOR    1:13.00
3 – Ambrosi Hoffmann   [...]

The second practice brings an Austrian 1 and 3 at the Hahnenkamm

After the cancellation yesterday of the 1st practice session of the Hahnenkamm, the second practice got underway today despite the low clouds and snow in Tirol. The practice was won by Michael Walchhofer followed by Swiss racer Didier Cuche and then fellow Austrian Christoph Gruber. It is great that the program has finally got underway [...]

First practice of the Hahnenkamm is wiped out by heavy snow

Well the snow has arrived just in time to scupper the plans for the first practice session of the Hahnenkamm 2009 downhill. Today’s race practice on the famous Streif race course has been cancelled due to heavy snow in Tirol and unfortunately for the race organisers, all over their immaculately prepared race course. With heavy [...]

Oh no……snow!

What could be better than 4 days of heavy snow forecast for the Tirol this week? Not much really unless you have produced a finely tuned race course that is in all intents and purposes a near vertical ice rink. The Hahnenkamm Streif, Kitzbuhel is set to host the greatest ski race on the planet [...]

Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm 09 – the countdown

Sometimes comments get buried beneath articles and never read, this one we need to reproduce as it offers some of the most compelling reasons to visit the greatest ski race on earth – the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm:
“I have drunk my body weight in alcohol ,got the wrong train and ended up in Germany ( Munich to [...]

Hahnenkamm 09 – practice starts in 6 days after course approval

The ultimate ski race of the year, the Streif on the Hahnenkamm, Kitzbuhel passed its first hurdle last week with the FIS inspection passing the course preparations in the build up to the race weekend. Now it is just 6 days until the greatest snow sport race of the year gets underway. The schedule for [...]

St Anton am Arlberg get things going on Friday with the start of a race weekend, whilst Ischgl is throwing another mega party on Saturday with Jenniffer Kae, [...]
