Altenmarkt, Austria skiing and snowboarding information. The Altenmarkt and Zauchensee ski areas share a ski pass. Altenmarkt offers a beginners ski area on the edge of Altenmarkt, whilst Zauchensee is located higher up the valley road. Both areas are part of the Salzburger Sportwelt ski region.

ALTENMARKT SKIING
Altenmarkt skiing is best suited to families and beginners skiers. The Altenmarkt ski area is compact and would not likely keep better skiers and snowboarders occupied for too long. The area is located on the edge of Altenmarkt and offers wooded slopes and a number of mountain huts. Ski buses run from the centre of Altenmarkt right to the ski lifts. In reality however, most of those visiting Altenmarkt do so for the ski area at Zauchensee. The Zauchensee ski area is higher, more extensive, has a better variety of pistes and a more extensive and more modern lift system. Buses run throughout the day from Altenmarkt to the higher resort of Zauchensee although there is no direct lift or piste connecting the ski areas of Altenmarkt and Zauchensee.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Altenmarkt has a small family area and shares a pass with the bigger neighbouring ski area of Zauchensee
We don`t like:
There is not lift or piste link between Altenmarkt and Zauchensee

ALTENMARKT SKI INFORMATION
The Zauchensee ski area offers greater terrain that is more variable and has a better ski lift system than Altenmarkt. The Zauchensee ski area is also higher than Altenmarkt. From the Zauchensee ski area it is possible to ski a good way into the Ski Amade region and the ski holiday resorts of Flachauwinkel, Wagrain, Alpendorf and St Johann. The Ski Amade region is vast but it is possible to reach these resorts in a day for the better skiers and snowboarders. Flachau is not lift linked to the area but is directly accessible from Flachauwinkel or Wagrain and has an impressive ski area. Intermediates will find the most on offer in Zauchensee, whilst raw beginners will be better off in Altenmarkt.
