ELLMAU THE RESORT
Ellmau is a sprawling resort of good size, although it retains a small village charm and atmosphere. The atmosphere is well geared to the family and the centre of Ellmau offers the usual cluster of hotels, shops, bars and restaurants around the village church. The spread-out nature of Ellmau makes for a relaxing, spacious feel but does mean that ski buses are something of a necessity for all accommodation except units located around the base station of the Hartkaiser funicular. The size of Ellmau also ensures that it has a good range of amenities, more than its near neighbours of Going and Scheffau. On the edge of Ellmau are the beginner ski pistes which are fairly close to the centre.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Pretty village centred around a church
We don`t like:
Popular in high season, not all accommodation is lift-side

ELLMAU RESORT INFORMATION
Attractive, charming and relaxed it certainly is but one downside of Ellmau is the sprawling nature of the village which often means ski buses are required to reach the lifts and walks are required to reach the central facilities from some accommodation. Still there are many worse places to stretch your legs than Ellmau.
