FLACHAU SKI HOLIDAYS

Flachau offers superb access from Salzburg and Salzburg airport, is famous as the birth place of Herman Maier and is in the centre of a huge ski region that spreads out across the region south of Salzburg. The main autobahn that runs south of Salzburg offers superb access to Flachau, in fact, one of the outlying lifts close to Flachau has been developed about 50m from the autobahn to serve visitors from Salzburg. Fortunately, Flachau the village unaffected by this main artery and is a village that spreads out along the foothills of the mountain that serves as its ski area. The skiing is extensive, ideal for intermediates and is connected to numerous other local ski areas. Après ski in Flachau is some of the best in the local area.

FLACHAU SKI HOLIDAY INFO

The skiing in Flachau is a decent size, links into the neighbouring areas of Zauchensee, Kleinarl and Wagrain directly and is part of the vast Ski Amade ski region. One pass covers over 850km of ski pistes and some 270 lifts. The skiing in Flachau best suits beginnes and intermediates.

Flachua the home village of Hermann Maier, provides the perfect base for intermediate skiers especially, with a short 40 minute transfer from Salzburg Airport (Huber bus/taxi recommended for quick & cost effective transfer), with good hotel accomodation options, we have stayed at the 4* Reslwirt & the 3* Salzburgerhof, both were excellent & good value for the facilities provides.

As well a decent skiing in Flachua itself, with quick access to the slopes via the reliable chairlifts, the long runs to Wagrain are a sheer joy! Utilising the ski bus to venture to Alpendorf is very worthwhile, as is the journey to Flachauwinkle, where the initial cable car may be a little ancient, but provides access to great skiing in Flachauwinkle itself but especially Zauchensee - a must for a days great alternative skiing!!!
without skiing this area.

Apres ski is lively, if you know where to go but the village is rather spread out but not as bad as many, for those seeking fun straight from the slopes the lively bar at the bottom of the chairlift in Flachuar is the place to be, plenty of beer, schnapps!!! - later in the evening the Hoo Ruck and the famous Fire & Ice bar are the places to venture!!!!!!!

Flachau is perfect for intermediate sking as there are plenty of easy reds that are just above blue, there are plenty of other harder reds. however it is not so good for beginners as you can only exit to to the bus pickup via a long steep hard red. a lot of beginners who had only skied blues and the odd bit of red were scared of the final decent some and in fact ended up opting for the cable car to take them back down. if you read this and have already booked dont worry as it is only the final decent that beginners might find hard and there is always the cable car option. Pluss your ski pass will let ski at other resorts down the road, flachau winkle is is about 5 mins away and there are some very easy blues for beginners alturnatively there is a 20 min bus ride to altenmart where you can pick up the free ski bus to zauchensee which has a really nice mix of blues reds and blacks and if want to return the following day they have lockers where you can leave your skis and boots over night.
