Great for beginners and lower intermediates. Better intermediates need to head to Ischgl just down the valley for superb intermediate skiing.

GALTUR SKIING

Galtur skiing is best suited to beginners and intermediates. The ski area is compact and is therefore less good for better intermediates or advanced skiers and boarders although the area often has good powder skiing available. For beginners the Galtur ski area offers a decent sized learners area at the edge of the resort (Wirl area) whilst the ski terrain above this area is forgiving and has wide open pistes. 2 lifts reach into the Galtur ski area and both offer easy skiing back to the resort. Intermediates are able to head further a field and there are some trails that have a real wilderness feel to them, with wonderful nature and a location removed from the main Galtur ski area and resort.

GALTUR SKI INFORMATION

For better intermediates then the Galtur ski area may prove too small as it can easily be covered by competent intermediates in a few hours. The snow quality which Galtur often provides however allows for some great piste skiing and carving. The snow is also a great resource for the better skiers and boarders and off-piste skiing in Galtur can be impressive in the right conditions. For those who exhaust the skiing resources in Galtur, Ischgl just down the valley and linked by frequent ski buses and a ski pass offers some of the very best skiing in Austria. The Ischgl ski area is extensive, has a great mix of terrain and an abundance of off-piste terrain.

Galtür is good for families and intermediate skiers. I liked the "ride to the lake". As they have a lake at the Kopseelifte, the piste seems to end where the lake begins and this creates a great at atmosphere. But the rest of the pistes is not that challenging. So especially intermediates and families with children will enjoy it there.
