Gargellen, Austria ski holiday resort guide. Gargellen is the highest ski holiday resort in the Montafon ski region and has a number of ski-in, ski-out properties. Gargellen is attractive and upmarket.

GARGELLEN THE RESORT

Gargellen is probably the prettiest of all the ski holiday resorts in the Montafon ski region. The higher altitude ensures that Gargellen has some of the more reliable snow and the attractive and compact ski holiday resort looks superb throughout the winter months under a blanket of snow. The fact that Gargellen is located as the last settlement on the mountain road ensures that traffic is reduced although many visitors still visit by car from the other Montafon ski holiday resorts. Access to the main ski lift is fairly simple whereas there are ski runs cutting through the resort to allow guest to ski back to much of the accommodation. In the heart of the ski holiday is the childrens ski area as well as a beginners ski tow just behind the church.

GARGELLEN RESORT INFORMATION

There is far less to do in Gargellen compared to the other ski holiday resorts in Montafon. During the day there are snow shoeing tours and whilst the scenery from the ski area is spectacular even for foot passengers, Gargellen has less to do for the non-skier than other resorts in the region. Gargellen has a number of mid to large hotels that cater for most of the guests and whilst the village is charming and there are numerous après ski bars straight after the slopes, then later on Gargellen is quiet with most guests dining in their hotels.

Gargellen is without a doubt the most beautiful resort in the world. So much so that I have skied there since I was 3 years old, I am now 27!

The Madrisa hotel is particularly amazing. The Rhomberg family are warm and welcoming, and their team always look after your needs. They are also lucky in that their main team remains the same year-on-year. The head barman, head chef and restaurant manager are still the same people from 24 years ago!

Yes there is an "interesting" apartment building in the centre of the village - it is triangular in shape. However it is not hideously ugly as other reviews infer, and it definately does not detract from the beautiful views.

The resort is fairly expensive, although I personally feel that it is very fairly priced given the friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere of the whole place.

Montafon is slightly more pricey than some resorts. Gargellen would get a 4 for attractiveness if it was not for the terrible central building.
