I have gone from complete beginner to advanced in all my years of visiting Gargellen. The resort is very well laid out for all skill levels. There are some very, very difficult black runs, although not so many as some larger resorts. Mostly the runs are red or blue.

The lifts are brilliant, and the new cable car makes the journey to the top a lot more comfortable. My only criticism would be that there is not a lift now to take you from the bottom to the middle station (the old chair lift was damaged and replaced by the cable car). The middle station is useful for skiing to the doorstep of the Madrisa Hotel. Without this lift, there are a few of options for sking to the Madrisa, the Tali (blue), the Standard (Black) and the Nidla (Black) runs are all accessed via the top station and will take you to the middle station and then joins to the blue run to Gargellen.

GARGELLEN SKIING

Gargellen greatly favours the intermediate skier or snowboarder. The 50km or so of ski pistes are nearly all above the tree-line and offer excellent cruising for the less advanced skiers or boarders with all classified runs being either blue or red in classification. From the top of the gondola at Schafberghusli, there are a couple of superb blue pistes that wind down on the margins of the ski area. One of them requires a short lift to a slightly higher altitude and both offer superb views, usually great snow and a real wilderness feel to them. The rolling and wide pistes and ideal for some fast cruising or for developing skiers or boarders who can get some long runs, whilst avoiding lifts.

GARGELLEN SKI INFORMATION

The ski area is exclusively blue or red classified but there are ski routes between the classified ski pistes that offer something for the better skiers. These ski routes are within the boundaries of the Gargellen ski area but are un-patrolled and un-groomed and many are a reasonable gradient. Beyond the bounds of the ski area there are a number of obvious off-piste sections that require either a traverse or a hike. Ski touring is popular in the Gargellen area. A local guide should always be taken but the off-piste offers some good opportunities for the better skiers and boarders.

Great for beginners and kids with slopes in the resort. Also very good for intermediates although the terrain is limited compared to Silvretta Nova. Advanced is limited but there are some good off-piste routes.
