Gargellen, Austria ski and snowboard holidays guide. Gargellen offers the highest resort and the Gargellen ski area is scenic and ideal for beginners and intermediates. Gargellen is also reasonably close to the Silvretta Nova ski region, the biggest in Montafon.

GARGELLEN SKI HOLIDAYS
Possibly the most rounded of the Montafon ski holiday resorts, Gargellen offers the highest resort in Montafon, a charming and compact ski holiday resort as well as an ok sized ski area. There are a couple of small ski areas in the village and the ski runs wind back through the resort offering the guests good access back to accommodation from the ski area. Gargellen is also probably the prettiest of the ski holiday resorts in Montafon and whilst having far less on offer than say Schruns away from the slopes, Gargellen is a fair sized resort that caters almost solely for holiday makers. The views from the ski area are superb and the biggest and best ski area in Montafon, the Silvretta Nova, is easily accessed by bus or car from Gargellen.

GARGELLEN SKI HOLIDAY INFO
The ski holiday resort of Gargellen is possibly the prettiest in Montafon, with the compact village offering some impressive hotels and a church located on the hillside of the resort. Ski pistes run back down into the resort from the ski area. The ski area is compact with around 50km of ski pistes. There are numerous ski routes to test the better skiers and boarders, whilst the marked ski area best suits intermediate skiers. There area couple of long blue pistes back to the resort on each edge of the ski region, offering a real wilderness feel and easy cruising.

The skiing / snowboarding

The lifts are brilliant, and the new cable car makes the journey to the top a lot more comfortable. My only criticism would be that there is not a lift now to take you from the bottom to the middle station (the old chair lift was damaged and replaced by the cable car). The middle station is useful for skiing to the doorstep of the Madrisa Hotel. Without this lift, there are a few of options for sking to the Madrisa, the Tali (blue), the Standard (Black) and the Nidla (Black) runs are all accessed via the top station and will take you to the middle station and then joins to the blue run to Gargellen.
The resort

The Madrisa hotel is particularly amazing. The Rhomberg family are warm and welcoming, and their team always look after your needs. They are also lucky in that their main team remains the same year-on-year. The head barman, head chef and restaurant manager are still the same people from 24 years ago!
Yes there is an "interesting" apartment building in the centre of the village - it is triangular in shape. However it is not hideously ugly as other reviews infer, and it definately does not detract from the beautiful views.
The resort is fairly expensive, although I personally feel that it is very fairly priced given the friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere of the whole place.
