GERLOS THE RESORT

Gerlos is an attractive low rise resort that stretches along a flat, high altitude valley connecting the Tirol and Salzburg. Smaller than Zell am Ziller down in the valley, Gerlos is possibly the biggest actual resort in the Zillertal Arena as Zell am Ziller also serves as a regional centre and has less of a resort feel than Gerlos. Gerlos is very much a winter ski holiday resort and has a number of impressive hotels and a wide range of accommodation but has less diversity than Zell am Ziller. It is an attractive resort with a superb setting high on the Gerlos pass and has excellent facilities and a good amount of accommodation. Gerlos still manages a remote and Alpine feel with little visible development beyond its borders.

GERLOS RESORT INFORMATION

For those staying in Gerlos there is superb access to the entire Zillertal Arena ski region in both directions. A beginners’ ski area is located close to the centre of the Gerlos, near the main gondola whilst trails reach back down to the resort. Gerlos is 1300m high and the region has an excellent snow record. There is one main road running through the valley and this forms the backbone of the resort with much of the accommodation that is not located along the Gerlos main road, situated on the northern edge, next to the ski area. One downside in Gerlos is location of the main gondola – it is located only a hundred metres or so from the centre of the resort but ski buses are often required to access it from most accommodation.
