HINTERTUX GLACIER THE RESORT

The closest village to the Hintertux Glacier is the small ski holiday resort of Hintertux, located directly at the lift station for the Hintertux Glacier. It offers a number of big hotels, has a fair amount of après ski activity and some large car parking resources for those arriving for the day. Hintertux is attractive enough with big but low rise hotels built in traditional style but the area, as with all glacial areas can be somewhat bleak (if of course dramatic) and Hintertux lacks the charm of other resorts further up the valley such as Tux–Lanersbach. For convenience though Hintertux is ideally located and has a good deal more to it than for example the base station area at the Stubai Glacier.

HINTERTUX GLACIER RESORT INFORMATION

Other ski holiday resorts to consider for those wanting to ski or snowboard at the Hintertux Glacier are Tux–Lanersbach, Finkenberg or Mayrhofen. All share the same Zillertal 3000 ski pass and it is possible to ski between all these areas as they are lift and piste linked (but for the Hintertux Glacier which is a short transfer from Tux–Lanersbach). Tux–Lanersbach offers good proximity to the Hintertux Glacier and a dedicated ski area of its own at Eggalm, whilst both Finkenberg and Mayrhofen both access the superb ski area around the Penken. Tux–Lanersbach, Finkenberg and Mayrhofen offer far more charm, facilities and also skiing options than the ski holiday resort of Hintertux although Hintertux has the best access to the glacier.

A number of villages just down from the Glacier that everyone seems to stay in, including Hintertux, Lanersbach and Vorder Lanersbach - all within easy reach of the Hintertux Glacier and well serviced by frequent buses.
