HOCHGURGL SKIING
Hochgurgl has superb access to the skiing with the entire village essentially ski-in, ski-out. The height also ensures a great snow record. Obergurgl and Hochgurgl essentially share the same ski area, those beneath the peaks of the Festkogel and the Wurmkogel. The areas are separated by a deep valley but are joined by the Top Express Gurgl gondola which spans the deep valley. The skiing in the combined Obergurgl - Hochgurgl greatly favours the intermediate skier of boarder although there is ample beginner terrain located just above Obergurgl. Advanced skiers and boarders will have to occupy themselves with the off-piste although the number 11 ski route from just beneath the Hohe Mut can be a challenge when conditions are not ideal.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Great snow, long season and ski-in, ski-out village
We don`t like:
Best for intermediates, better skiers need to search for the tougher terrain

HOCHGURGL SKI INFORMATION
The skiing in the Obergurgl - Hochgurgl ski region greatly favours the intermediate skier or boarder. The skiing in the region is very similar to glacier skiing with wide and gentle ski pistes with no tree cover. The height of the Obergurgl - Hochgurgl ski region tends to produce some of the best snow in the region both in terms of quality and abundance. In bad weather however the Obergurgl - Hochgurgl ski region can be seriously exposed, in high winds and with no tree cover, the ski terrain can feel almost Martian.
