INNSBRUCK SKIING
The closest ski holiday resort to Innsbruck is Igls, which hosted the Olympics back in 1976. Igls offers wide and interesting ski pistes, a compact area and a lift that runs out of the attractive village of Igls. Axamer Lizum is some 40 minutes and 1000m above Innsbruck and is the most impressive ski area around Innsbruck. Axamer Lizum offers a medium sized ski area that is good for intermediates but only offers a small (absolute) beginner ski area. Off-piste is good when conditions favour and the area is now linked to the neighbouring ski holiday area of Mutters. Mutters is compact, the ski pistes run down to the very attractive village of Mutters and is ideal for beginners.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Varied, extensive, snow sure with Stubai glacier
We don`t like:
Little slope-side accommodation in Innsbruck itself.

INNSBRUCK SKI INFORMATION
The one ski area that is accessed directly from Innsbruck is the Nordpark - Seegrube. The lights from the top station glow all night and make for a dramatic focal point through the night. The Hafelekar top station offers ski routes that are reported to be steepest marked routes in Europe. On powder days Innsbruck shakes with avalanche detonations and locals fight to get the first cable cars for some of the best steep powder skiing and boarding in the Innsbruck Valley. For snow-sure skiing and year round skiing and boarding, the Stubai Glacier is located south of Innsbruck and offers a great ski area. With such a height the Stubai Glacier has the best snow in the region.
