Quite a pretty busy resort with lots of facilities, bars and restaurants - prices are quite pricey for Austria though.

ISCHGL THE RESORT

Ischgl has grown massively over recent years and whilst the resort has a real compact feel to it, Ischgl has very many accommodation units and services. Ischgl has a plush feel to it with impressive hotels located around the three access points to the mountain and the resort is interconnected by the Dorf Tunnel (Town Tunnel) with a moving stair way connecting the two sides of Ischgl. Access to the lifts and après ski entertainment are found in the same zones of Ischgl and whilst these areas can be crowded in the morning and lively in the afternoon / evening, Ischgl retains a real quality feeling about it. The resort lacks some of the big communal facilities that St Anton or Kitzbuhel has but they are often found in hotels.

ISCHGL RESORT INFORMATION

As with almost all Austrian alpine resorts, Ischgl is centred around a domed church and is sandwiched between a river and lower slopes of the Ischgl ski area. Ischgl is fairly elongated but with three main lifts leaving from different areas of the ribbon type village, accommodation in Ischgl itself is never too far from the ski lifts or the ski pistes. Some accommodation is located just above the village effectively giving ski-in, ski-out accommodation, but in general Ischgl offers good access to the slopes rather than immediate access.

Ischgl is not a cheap resort especially so in early Jan. I didn't appreciate how popular it is with the Russians who cellerbrate their Christmas in the first week of Jan. What would have been a quiet week elsewhere was packed to capacity. General prices are typical of an alpine ski resort unfortuanately the euro exchange rate had a big affect on prices.
