The runs down to the village represent a challenge for any beginner skier and can be so busy that you may be better off taking the gondola back down.

Ischgl is not a cheap resort especially so in early Jan. I didn't appreciate how popular it is with the Russians who cellerbrate their Christmas in the first week of Jan. What would have been a quiet week elsewhere was packed to capacity. General prices are typical of an alpine ski resort unfortuanately the euro exchange rate had a big affect on prices.

Ischgl is not really for a family holiday. I would suggest families go up the valley to Galtur

Apres ski is major in Ischgl. There is plenty to do and prices aren't any different than normal.

One of the highest tech lift systems there is, very few bottlenecks. Very good intermediate runs over a wide area Several long runs of around 1000m vertical and a nice day out to duty free Samnaun. Piste maintenance similar to USA

Narrow main street onto which all flashy hotels face. Don't expect "chocolate-box" alpine!

Loud Austro-German disco oompah techno! Sleazy pole dancing bars. You can drink until very early!

Attractive but pricey accommodation for Austria. Somewhat hilly.

As it's a party town it's geared more to groups of friends than families.

Really great intermediate skiing - very extensive and interesting runs down into Switzerland. I also did my first powder skiing here - I was hopeless but the powder snow was great!

Quite a pretty busy resort with lots of facilities, bars and restaurants - prices are quite pricey for Austria though.

A vibrant apres ski scene - as well as the cheesy austrian dancing on tables with ski boots bars, they are also trying to go for a bit of a Ibiza in winter feel I think, as there were clubs like Pascha etc

Party atmosphere! Definitely the resort for you if you are looking for some classic apres ski!!

Great for intermediates and superb off-piste skiing. Sometimes terrible runs back to the resort – narrow and crowded. The lift system is outstanding.

About as expensive as it gets in Austria but also very much top of the pile for après ski.
