Very pleasantly surprised by skiing in Kappl alone, let alone whole valley. Nice long runs - 9km being longest. The terrain I felt was nice and varied. Some motorway cruising at top, bits in the trees for the kids to enjoy mid mountain and nice tree run from mid point back to village. Good fun park too and excellent timed GS course which was groomed daily. Slopes were in the main deserted and we were there just after New Year so still in high season (just). Lift system was a little disappointing but skiing more than made up for it. Went to Ischgl for one day and loads more skiing on offer there. But on reflection I would have saved myself the €50 upgrade for whole valley pass and skied Kappl all week.
One of the things I liked about the skiing was that on the main chairs you had a blue, red and black to choose from and all (usually) met at bottom.
I will definitely return with family again

Nice village and a steep slope. Not a huge selection of restaurants in village but we were half board so could not comment on them. Stunning church with graveyard lit by candles at night - beautiful. Thought the resort and mountain restaurants represented excellent value with a lunch for 5 (2 adults 3 kids) typically costing €35 with hot chocolates and beers for all.

Kappl regularly comes up as one of Autria's best family ski destinations and I can see why, although it could do with a swimming pool. Ski school looked very busy but we only put our youngest (aged 6) into a private lesson for one afternoon (with English instructor - Thomas Ledger if you need to ask for him) and thought it went very well.
There's a big kids area called Sunny Mountain at mid station where the creche etc is. All very well kitted out but as I said, very busy when we were there

Schafstahl on slopes in village was good but place at foot of slopes beside gondola (attached to Auhof Hotel) was better. Really great atmosphere with all the family getting on down to pumping apres ski tunes.
