KITZSTEINHORN GLACIER THE RESORT

There is no resort actually located at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, just a base station and some ski facilities. Those skiing at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier will most likely stay in either in Kaprun or Zell am See. Kaprun is the closest ski holiday resort to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier and regular buses run from the resort to the glacier. Kaprun also has a dedicated ski area of its own on the edge of the resort, the Maiskogel ski area. Kaprun is a good sized resort that spreads out across the valley, with some accommodation located along the ski pistes of the Maiskogel ski area. The resort is entirely low rise and traffic tends to be local only – the main road between the Zell am See area and the valley that Kaprun occupies bypasses Kaprun.

KITZSTEINHORN GLACIER RESORT INFO

The centre of Kaprun is as usual situated around the church and there is a reasonable atmosphere in Kaprun. The ski holiday resort of Kaprun is somewhat in the shadow of its near neighbour Zell am See. Zell am See enjoys a lakeside location and a bigger more year-round resort. Kaprun is hardly a seasonal holiday resort but by comparison, Zell am See has the bigger pull. Zell am See also has ski buses accessing the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier as well as its own ski area above the resort and looking down directly on the lake. There are more facilities in Zell am See than Kaprun and the nightlife is more lively. Kaprun though is closer to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.
