Mayrhofen, Austria skiing and snowboarding guide. Mayrhofen offers skiing in the Penken and Ahorn areas and is part of the Zillertal 3000 ski area. The Mayrhofen snow park is one of the very best.

MAYRHOFEN SKIING

The ski area in Mayrhofen is located at over 1000m above the ski holiday resort of Mayrhofen, whilst the top skiing altitude is over 2500m. The ski area is varied, big and popular. Wide gentle pistes contrast with the Harakiri, the steepest groomed piste in Austria. The Burton terrain park is reckoned to be the best in Austria, whilst the local snowboard scene in Mayrhofen has some of the biggest names in European snowboarding. Unfortunately the one feature lacking in the Mayrhofen list is a ski piste back to the village of Mayrhofen. The severe nature of the rock face between the Mayrhofen and the ski area renders it impossible to create a run back to the resort.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

MAYRHOFEN SKI INFORMATION

There are pistes that run to the villages of Finkenberg and Hippach, villages that neighbour Mayrhofen, but the only way directly back to Mayrhofen from the ski area is via the Penkenbahn. Mayrhofen boasts another ski area, the Mayrhofen Ahorn ski area which is accessed via the Ahornbahn that runs out of Mayrhofen. The Mayrhofen Ahorn ski area is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and unlike the Mayrhofen Penken ski area, there is a ski piste that runs back down into Mayrhofen.

Half our group snow boarded and half skied and both groups had a fantastic time, the beginers had lots of choice on gentle blue runs and the advanced skier/boarder had plenty choice on various black runs including the devils run and the hakari
