MONTAFON SKIING

With 11 main villages Montafon boasts a total of 8 ski holiday regions. Technically this is true but in reality there are 4 realistic ski regions and just 3 with real credentials. Intermediates are best catered for the Montafon ski region although the superb snow record of the region and a good degree of ski touring and ski routes within areas makes for some impressive terrain for better skiers and boarders. Beginner and kids ski areas exist in pretty much all ski areas whilst cross country is widespread. Silvretta Nova is the biggest and possibly the best. Silvretta Nova boasts the biggest terrain park in the whole of Austria and has an active community. Tree-lined skiing is available whilst huge bowls are available to off-piste skiers and boarders.

MONTAFON SKI INFORMATION

Gargellen has its own impressive if mid-sized ski area and the fact the ski holiday resort is located at a reasonable height ensures the runs back to the resort are open throughout the winter. Ski pistes actually run through the resort and allow good access to much of the accommodation in Gargellen. A couple of blue ski pistes on the margins of the ski region offer superb and long cruising in a real wilderness environment. Schruns and Silbertal access the Hochjoch ski area, the skiing is basically in 2 large bowls, is generally intermediate and has good snow and superb views. The Golm ski area is accessed from Vandans and is close to Tschagguns and is the third main ski region in Montafon with intermediate skiing mainly offered.
