The Nassfeld is a ski resort which offers a greate variety. Easy cruising on the pistes, some really challenging pistes and a greate backcountry. In addition the atmosphere is really special. Especially when cruising down towards the central lift station, you pass a few older hats which gives you the experience of cruising through a village on ski.

NASSFELD SKIING

Nassfeld offers the best lift system in the south of Austria, serving over 100km of mainly beginner and intermediate ski pistes. The location in the Southern Alps of Austria ensures a much flaunted figure of 850 hours of sun each winter, beating northern Austrian resorts by some 100 hours each winter. Beginners have an impressive area at the station between sections 2 and 3 of the Millennium Express lift, with a wide ski piste and lifts located in an opening in the forest. Intermediate skiers have extensive cruising, mainly above the tree-line, with the Crania piste a great 7.6km red down into the resort of Troploach. Expert skiers and boarders will have to venture off-piste to keep themselves occupied after they have tried the few blacks on offer.

NASSFELD SKI INFORMATION

Nassfeld is one of the less well known of the big league resorts in Austria, beyond the Italian and Austrian market. Its profile is lower than other big Austrian resorts since it is located on the Italian border, whilst the investors in the ski area had the genius concept of investing so much in the lift infrastructure that they had no marketing budget left. Quite why such a blunder occurred is little distraction to the locals who cruise the pistes and sit on the fast lifts, with few of the crowds of similar sized ski areas.
