Nauders, Austria ski holiday resort guide. Nauders has a real Italian / border feel and is dominated by a large castle.
How you rate it

NAUDERS THE RESORT
Nauders is located a few km from the Italian border and as such has a combined Austrian / Italian feel to it. The architecture is still pretty Austrian (since the Italian side of the border is South Tirol, formerly Austrian before WW1) but there is a large influx of guests from Italy and the place has a feel rather different to other ski holiday resorts to the north. Nauders is dominated by a large castle which served to protect the vital valley and is the scene of family tobogganing during the winter. Nauders is set back off the main road between Austria and Italy and has a relaxed feel to it.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Attractive with dramatic castle, very relaxed atmosphere
We don`t like:
The ski lifts are frustratingly close but outside of Nauders

NAUDERS RESORT INFORMATION
The slight dislocation between the ski holiday resort of Nauders and the ski area is a downside for the resort. Ski-in is possible for some of the village and accommodation via the beginners ski area that is located on the edge of the resort. And the lift that serves the Nauders beginners ski area also allows transit to the main gondola linking to the ski area. The problem is that the lift is a short but inconvenient distance from the centre of Nauders. Most people as a result take either a ski bus or car to the lift base station, cars adding to the local traffic in a village that is otherwise happily by-passed by the main valley road.
