The Stubai Glacier serves Neustift and offers the best glacier skiing in the Alps. Great lift system, superb for beginners and intermediates. Much less for advanced skiers, off-piste only with local guides due to crevasse dangers.

NEUSTIFT SKIING

Locally, the Neustift skiing is limited in size and terrain although it makes a very convenient option for those staying in Neustift. There is a modern gondola running out of the village to the area and whilst the terrain and the views are superb the Elferlift ski area is made up of just a few lifts and runs. Most visitors choosing Neustift do so because of its access to the Stubai Glacier. The Stubai Glacier offers the best glacier skiing in the whole of Austria, possibly Europe. The glacier is big, served by an extensive and modern lift system and has numerous restaurants and amenities. The Stubai Glacier has a 13 km ski piste back to the base station which in good conditions is superb. When it is icy and at the end of the day it can be hellish.

NEUSTIFT SKI INFORMATION

The Stubai Glacier takes the vast majority of the skiers and boarders visiting the Stubai Valley. It offers the highest skiing, the best snow and superb views across to Solden in Otztal Valley and into Italy. The fact that it is so high is great news for snow conditions and the season is long, including skiing in the summer months. However the height of the Stubai Glacier means that it is above the tree-line and in poor weather conditions the visibility can be bad. The other ski area that is readily accessed from Neustift is the ski area of Schlick 2000. It offers a bigger area than the local Elferlift and has wonderful natural rock features surrounding the ski area. Skiing in all three areas is predominantly intermediate but there is an impressive beginners area at the Stubai Glacier.

great long slopes for beginners to feel like they are really getting somewhere, and really good for intermediates aswell - lots of variety for a glacier and many runs!
