OBERGURGL SKIING
Both Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are blessed with altitude. Obergurgl is located at 1930m and Hochgurgl at 2150m. Both access high altitude skiing with the Wurmkogl area above Hochgurgl slightly higher, topping out at 3080m, compared to the 3035m height of the Festkogl above Obergurgl. The lift system is excellent and modern in both Obergurgl and Hochgurgl. Most of the skiing in the two areas is intermediate and characterised by wide open and moderate ski pistes, very similar in fact to glacier skiing. There is one ski route down the Festkgol that is quite testing and one from top of the Hohe Mut that is either a challenge when rutted or an absolute dream in deep snow. This, apart from some steep chutes offer the best advanced skiing.
THE GOOD, THE BAD

OBERGURGL SKI INFORMATION
The Obergurgl ski areas are somewhat dominated by intermediate crusiers – perfect if that is what is required. More advanced skiing can be found on the few ski routes in the area. Some descent off-piste sections and chutes are also available in the area but these generally have to be discovered rather than being very obvious. Unfortunately the reason for the great snow quality is also the cause of one of the main drawbacks of the Obergurgl ski area. The height ensures that almost all the skiing is above the tree-line, which in poor weather can mean very difficult orientation.
