some parts nice and wide with a range of routs to take within routes, there are some long flats and slight up hills that are hard to get past unless you can get a good run up, any experianced snowboarder will not find it a problem. but if you dont make it you dont need skiiers flying past you as close as they can get. (their adults whats their problem?)

OBERGURGL SKI HOLIDAYS

Obergurgl, is one of the most snow-sure, non-glacial ski areas in Austria. The area is surrounded by glaciers and whilst the ski terrain resembles the wide, gentle runs of traditional glaciers, Obergurgl relies on conventional snow. Fortunately at a height of 1930m, with Hochgurgl some way above that, then snow is almost always plentiful throughout the winter months. There are 2 villages serving the Obergurgl ski area, Obergurgl itself located in the valley and Hochgurgl at mid mountain and slope-side. Obergurgl is by far the bigger with more facilities and accommodation available. Hochgurgl offers superb access to the slopes and lifts from its location at mid-mountain. The Obergurgl ski area is extensive and is perfect for intermediates.

OBERGURGL SKI HOLIDAY INFO

The skiing is Obergurgl is characterised by great snow quality and an abundance of intermediate slopes. All skiing is above the tree-line and occupies the slopes beneath the Fetskogl and Wurmkogl peaks. The two areas are joined by a near horizontal gondola that spans the gorges between the areas. The resorts are Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are both upmarket and stylish resorts but differ greatly in location. Obergurgl at 1930m down in the valley spreads out along the valley whilst Hochgurgl is situated on the mountainside at 2150m and has superb access to the lifts and ski pistes. Of the 2 Obergurgl offers far more facilities.

Great resort - excellent for a family of intermediate skiers. Plenty to keep everyone occupied for a week (if you include Hochgurgl - which is very easy to get to either via the telecabine or even quicker via the free bus that connects the two resorts in just a few minutes).

Charming Tyrollian village. Quite a small resort - but enough to keep families occupied. Mostly hotels so not sure about chalet / apartment scene.
Excellent little bar (Fassl Bar) in shape of big barrel at bottom of ski school meeting area - must qualify as one of the smallets pubs in Europe.

Everything quite pricy partly because of FX rate and partly beacuse it is right at the head of the valley.

See comment above about Fassl bar. Also try out CU Bar and cellar bar at Yosl Hotel. At the end of the day it is quite small for Apres and wont necessarily suit the livelier crowd. Great for a quick couple of drink with the family after skiing or slipping out for a cheeky couple before dinner. Didn't try any night clubs - too tired after playing pass the pigs in th e hotel bar! Most of the action I suspect stays in the respoective hotels of which there are quite a few.
