Obertauern, Austria ski and snowboard holidays. Obertauern has skiing on both sides of the valley. A good deal of Obertauern accommodation is ski-in, ski-out and Obertauern has great après ski and a superb snow record.

OBERTAUERN SKI HOLIDAYS
Obertauern is one of the few purpose built ski resorts in Austria, and unlike many like Kuhtai and Axamer Lizum, Obertauern is a decent sized resort / village. one of the principle draws of Obertauern is the altitude and that is the principal reason that it was built. In the region south of Salzburg, Obertauern is the highest non-glacier resort and it boasts a good snow record. Despite carrying the label purpose-built, Obertauern has been built in traditional Austrian style with low rise buildings and ornate wooden facades. Obertauern spreads out along the road which is the mountain pass for the area. There are numerous lifts leaving from a variety of areas in and around Obertauern. The ski area is a good size but offers little in the way of advanced terrain.

OBERTAUERN SKI HOLIDAY INFO
The skiing in Obertauern extends to nearly 100km of ski pistes. This is dominated by beginner blue pistes which make up nearly two thirds of the ski pistes. Nearly all the rest are intermediate red runs and there is almost nothing in the way of black classified ski pistes. All the skiing takes place above the tree-line which is not ideal in poor weather. The resort of Obertauern is fairly upmarket and since it is a modern, purpose built resort it is pretty well laid out with ski lifts leaving from most parts of the resort. Despite it being one of the few purpose built resorts in Austria, this is no French-style development. Buildings are low rise and built in a traditional Austrian alpine fashion.

Apres ski

comprimising the 'family' aspect of the resort. Without doubt the best bar is Nanu. Pricing is reasonable, doesn't seem to be any 'rip off' any where.
