OBERTRAUN - KRIPPENSTEIN FAMILY SKI HOLIDAYS

The Krippenstein Freeride Arena comes with a serious reputation for extreme skiing but Obertraun is in fact pretty good for families looking for authentic Austrian life and prepared to travel the short distance to the really excellent Dachstein West ski region. The Dachstein West is ideal for beginners and intermediates and has a number of resort villages that offer excellent amenities. Obertraun has a train link, is a well rounded village but has few of the facilities of the big ski holiday resorts in the Alps. It is though peaceful, authentic has very light traffic and little noise.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

Relaxed resort with good family skiing just down the valley at Gosau

Less tourist facilities than some bigger resorts

Quiet and few cars but also few facilities. For families wanting a real piece of Austrian mountain life then Obertraun is ideal. The Dachstein West ski area offers great family skiing just down the road.
