The two glacier base stations have no accommodation so all visitors stay down in Solden, one of the mega resorts of the Alps. Attractive but for the busy road and full of facilities.

SOLDEN GLACIER THE RESORT

The Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers offer no resort accommodation directly at their base stations, instead guests stay in either in Solden or Hochsolden (or else in a neighbouring village). Both the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers are equipped with car parks, restaurants, ski lifts and amenities. The Rettenbach base station is located at 2684m and Teifenbach base station at 2796m, higher than the top height of most ski areas in the Alps. Facilities as such as just for day visitors, whilst the areas can be reached on skis or by road (weather permitting). The trip by road is spectacular but is made up of endless hairpin bends, whereas the logical way to access is via the Glacier Express lift.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

Good  We like:
Solden offers superb facilities whilst Hochsolden is entirely ski-in, ski-out

Bad  We don`t like:
There is nothing in the way of a resort at the glaciers

SOLDEN GLACIER RESORT INFORMATION

Hochsolden is the closest ski holiday resort to the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers in terms of distance but the glaciers can also be accessed via Giggijoch from Solden, further down in the valley, or else via the slightly longer route from the Gaislachkogel ski area. Hochsolden offers ski-in, ski-out convenience and an attractive, compact village whilst Solden located down in the valley has endless amenities, the best après ski available and a significantly wider choice of accommodation. Guests wanting to access the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers would normally stay in one of these two ski holiday resorts.
