SOLDEN GLACIER SKIING

The skiing on the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers is generally fairly gentle with wide slopes and very often superb snow conditions. Skiing is possible for almost all the year but for scheduled lift maintenance and very hot periods during the summer months. From the late spring until late autumn, the skiing has to be accessed directly from the base stations at the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers, since the regular lift system which takes skiers and boarders to the glacier in the winter will be out of service. A ski bus runs up the dramatic valley road during these times. The height of the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers ensures a snow guarantee and often superb snow quality.

SOLDEN GLACIER SKI INFORMATION

The superb top to bottom height of the Solden ski area is one of the highest in the Alps. From over 3200m the skier or boarder can ski all the way back to Solden for those obsessed with ‘vertical’, whilst this vertical also ensures that a variety of terrain and conditions can be encountered with forest lined runs available from around 2000m down and then high altitude and snow reliable skiing above that. The neighbouring glacier ski areas in Austria cannot offer this; the Pitztal Glacier has no ski out, whereas the Stubai Glacier has a single run out down to 1700m. The Solden ski area offers far more in this respect and is a genuine ski area that is also attached to the Rettenbach and Teifenbach Glaciers.

Every year the Skiing Worldcup starts with a great event in Sölden on the glacier. The giant slalom is one of the most challenging in the whole season. The Ötztal glacier is perfect for praticing ski skills in the early season and also when you are looking for new ski equipment, because some popular ski brands have test center there, where you can ski in / ski out with the latest skis.
