PITZTAL GLACIER THE RESORT
The Pitztal Glacier lies at the very end of the Pitztal Valley. The Pitztal Valley is home to a number of ski holiday resorts although the Pitztal Glacier is the main draw. The biggest town in the Pitztal Valley is St Leonhard, a hugely sprawling village that follows the valley for many km’s. St Leonhard is in fact more an administrative entity than a village with boundaries. Unlike the Stubai, Kaunertal or Kitzsteinhorn Glaciers, the Pitztal Glacier has a fairly large settlement close to its lift station at the far reaches of St Leonhard. There are a number of hotels in this area as well as bars and restaurants. There is also a lift accessing the Rifflsee ski region, an alternative, non-glacial ski area.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Closer accommodation to the Pitztal Glacier than many other glacier skiing areas
We don`t like:
St Leonhard is a hugely strung out village, occupying much of the valley

PITZTAL GLACIER RESORT INFO
The area of St Leonhard that is close to the Pitztal Glacier features an ice climbing wall (rock climbing in the summer) and hosts national events. This resort area has a number of bars and restaurants and whilst it is not your traditional Austrian village due to the severe and steep sided valley, the buildings are attractive and low-rise. Just a bit further along the valley is the Pitztal Glacier base station featuring a large car park and the funicular that access the Pitztal Glacier.
