The lift system has been improved and the Pitztal Glacier offers the highest skiing in Austria at over 3400m. Little for advanced skiers but great ski touring possible from the Pitztal Glacier.

PITZTAL GLACIER SKI HOLIDAYS

The Pitztal Glacier is one of the principal glacier skiing areas in Austria and offers the highest skiing in Austria. The skiing is located in a large glacial bowl, is totally snow-sure and offers skiing right into the summer, although Autumn through to late Spring usually offer the best conditions. Located fairly close to Solden and the Solden glaciers, the Pitztal Glacier is yet to be connected to the Solden area although there are elaborate plans to do so. The road route between the areas is considerable. Recent upgrades to the lift infrastructure have improved the skiing experience markedly and whilst there is now a ski route out, back to the valley, this is intended for emergency evacuation only. The authorised way to access and depart the ski area is via an underground funicular.

The Pitztaler Glacier has become more and more popular in the past years. It can be easily reached and even after heavy snowfall, the streets should be free. A big advantage for the "Pitztaler" compared to its neighbour, the Kaunertaler Glacier. But especially on weekends in the early season the Pitzaler can be very crowded and maybe you have to wait for a while before accessing it by the Pitz Panorama Bahn. The Wildspitze ist one of the highest mountains of Austria and is an amazing skitour, which starts on this glacier.

If the ski route over the Taschachferner is open, you can really have some great long distance skiing there.

The Pitztal Glacier starts at the end of the Pitztal and all the hotels are spread over the Pitztal.

This is one of the better glaciers. On clear days you have a beautiful view from the top of the glacier.
