ZELL AM SEE SKIING

The ski area that serves the ski holiday village of Zell am See offers numerous tree-lined ski pistes below the Schmittenhohe peak. There is a good mix of blue, red and black pistes in the Zell am See ski area, which enjoys dramatic views across the lake and onto the highest mountain in Austria. Whilst the ski area at Zell am See may only have a top height of 2000m, Zell am See neighbours Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier for snow-sure skiing. Schuttdorf and Kaprun both have ski areas as well to explore. The separate ski areas can be included on one ski pass. From the Schmittenhohe the skiing fans out across gentle ridge above the tree-line and the views are quite something. Restaurants are available at and around this location.

ZELL AM SEE SKI INFORMATION

The runs high up tend to favour the intermediate skier or boarder whilst there are a few blacks lower down, although these runs are hardly tough. The 2 main drawbacks to skiing at the Schmittenhohe area (above Zell am See) are the bottom height of the lower slopes and the difficulty of the lower ski pistes. The slopes are pretty low and get quite a bit of sun, so can get slushy at the end of the season, whilst the main runs back to the resort, whilst not the toughest ever are certainly challenging for less experienced skiers and snowboarders.
