ZILLERTAL ARENA SKI HOLIDAYS

Located in a side valley off the main Zillertal Valley, the Zillertal Arena offers some of the very best intermediate skiing and snowboarding in the Alps. The area is wonderfully attractive, has a great range of resorts and has a good top height. The resorts range from Zell am Ziller in the west of the region, through to Hochkrimml on the eastern side of the region and located on the Salzburg side of the provincial border. Gerlos has excellent après ski and an impressive resort whilst Konigsleiten offers ski-in, ski-out chalet accommodation, something of a rarity in Austria. Hochkrimml is ideal for beginners whilst Zell am Ziller is an authentic working town in the Zillertal Valley.

ZELL AM ZILLER

Zell am Ziller is the most accessible ski holiday resort in the Zillertal Arena and is also the biggest and most authentic town. Bigger and different to the other regional ski holiday resorts, Zell am Ziller is a working town that accesses the Zillertal Arena from a lift leaving the edge of the town. Zell am Ziller is ideal for regional airport transfers and offers visitors the chance to explore the superb Zillertal Valley ski holiday resorts including Mayrhofen and the Hintertux Glacier. For those wanting an authentic stay with access to superb intermediate skiing then Zell am Ziller is an excellent option.

GERLOS

Gerlos is the biggest of the ski holiday resorts that make up the Zillertal Arena (discounting Zell am Ziller which is a town). It is located in the heart of the Zillertal Arena ski area and has ready access to either the Zell am Ziller or Konigsleiten ski areas from its own ski area. Gerlos is a good sized resort with impressive facilities and the location is superb with a river side setting in an intimate valley. Intermediate skiing is mostly available in the Gerlos ski area whilst there is a beginners’ area located on edge of the resort, next to the main Gerlos ski lift. Gerlos has good après ski and is popular with the Dutch and Germans.

HOCHKRIMML

Hochkrimml is located at the opposite end of the Zillertal Arena ski region to Zell am Ziller and offers the best beginner skiing in the Zillertal Arena; at the same time it has the least intermediate or advanced terrain. The ski holiday resort of Hochkrimml is made up of a number of settlements that are located just beneath the main ski area and the resort is essentially ski-in, ski-out. The Hochkrimml ski area links directly into the Konigsleiten region of the Zillertal Arena to offer intermediates a great option, whilst there is a good deal of off-piste as well for the better skiers and snowboarders. Après ski is probably the least lively of all the Zillertal Arena resorts.

KONIGSLEITEN

Konigsleiten is the highest, has some of the best ski terrain and is one of the few ski-in, ski-out ski holiday resorts in Austria that features a good range of chalet accommodation. For beginners there is the excellent Hochkrimml ski area, whilst for better skiers and snowboarders then the Konigsleiten area provides some of the most varied terrain in the Zillertal Arena as well as linking into the Gerlos and further a field, the Zell am Ziller ski areas. At 1600m and with an excellent snow history, Konigsleiten is often deep in snow. Après ski is pretty lively and there is a dedicated learning area in the centre of what is a very attractive ski holiday resort.
