SKI HOLIDAYS IN FRANCE

france ski holidays

France is the biggest ski and snowboard holiday destination in the world and for high altitude, linked skiing then France is probably also the best in the world. It leads the way with linked resorts, ski-in, ski-out resort convenience and has the highest peak in the entire Alps. French locals stop religiously at 12 noon for lunch, no matter how deep the powder – commendable selflessness.

FAMILY SKI HOLIDAYS IN FRANCE

If you can ignore some of the architectural misadventures of many French ski holiday resorts then one thing is visionary – the ski-in, ski-out out access. Facilities in many ski holiday resorts in France are also excellent for families. La Tania is both attractive and convenient and is one of the best for family ski holidays. La Plagne is another great option as is Flaine.

EXTREME SKIING IN FRANCE

france extreme skiing

Chamonix gets all the hype for extreme ski terrain in France and it is justifiably one of the best areas for extreme and off-piste skiing. Those in the know however head to La Grave, a tiny resort close to Les Deux Alpes. It offers the most extreme terrain of any French ski area and is the base for some leading extreme ski and boarding guide operations. Val d'Isere is also famed for its off-piste.

APRES SKI RESORTS IN FRANCE

france apres ski

Après ski in France can be hit and miss. Purpose built resorts, with poor atmosphere and dominated by self catering units are not ideal for buoyant après ski. Combine this with some steep prices and après ski in France isn’t always too good. Val d'Isere and Meribel offer some of the best but Morzine, Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are also very good.

SNOW-SURE FRANCE

france snow sure

France boasts the highest peak in the Alps – Mont Blanc, as well as the highest resort - Val Thorens. Glaciers are located throughout Northern / Central French Alps. Chamonix, Les Deux Alpes, Tignes, Val d'Isere, Alpe d'Huez, La Plagne and Val Thorens all provide glacier skiing over 3000m. The seasons in these glacier ski resorts are long and snow is assured throughout the winter.
