CHAMONIX THE RESORT
Chamonix is steeped in history and the town of Chamonix reflects this in its atmosphere. It is absolutely dominated by huge peaks and glaciers and their debris surround this dramatic town. Chamonix has changed a good deal in recent years and boutique shops and cafes are now a common feature of the town. Chamonix, despite the influx of money and wannabes remains a town for hard core alpinists. The truth is though that more and more are attracted to either emulate or bask in the reputation that Chamonix retains. Impressive hotels and facilities are springing up throughout Chamonix as it grows, whilst the Chamonix valley is seeing huge growth in response to growing visitors to this world renowned region.

CHAMONIX RESORT INFORMATION
The principal towns in the Chamonix valley alongside Chamonix are Les Houches, Les Praz, Argentiere, Le tour and Valloercine. Smaller and fairly distant from Chamonix, the villages have grown to meet the demand for those visiting the valley. Each resort offers access to its own ski area although they pale into insignificance compared to the services and grandeur of Chamonix. Chamonix forms the central part of this region and whilst traffic is directed around the town it can be extremely heavy both inside Chamonix and on the by-passing route.
