CHATEL SKI HOLIDAYS

Chatel is one of the many ski holiday resorts on the giant Portes du Soleil ski region and links into the resorts on the Swiss side of the border. The skiing in Chatel is unfortunately separated into 2 areas that are not lift linked. Chatel is one of the number of Portes du Soleil ski resorts that offer attractive low rise buildings, but as with most of the resorts on the Portes du Soleil, Chatel is also low in terms of resort and top skiing altitude. Despite the lack of altitude, Chatel has some of the best access to the higher altitude skiing at Avoriaz, although this is from the ski area above Pre la Joux and is a short drive or bus ride from Chatel itself. Chatel is a fairly pretty village but is spread out and suffers from heavy traffic.

REVIEW RESORT AND WIN

CHATEL SKI HOLIDAY INFO

The resort of Chatel is spread out along the valley and also up the mountainside above and below the main road through the area. The spacious and low rise buildings are welcome in France but it is a fair distance between ends of the village. Chatel has a relaxed atmosphere but suffers from heavy traffic during the busy times. The skiing in Chatel is located in two separate areas. One is above the resort in the area called Super Chatel whilst the other is down the valley and above Pre la Joux. Intermediate skiing rules and is on a grand scale in the Portes du Soleil. Access to the Swiss resorts is possible from Super Chatel whilst skiers and boarders can reach Avoriaz via the ski area above Pr la Joux.
