Flaine is an excellent choice for families and intermediates. There is an extensive beginners ski area in the resort centre and the gentle slopes of Flaine are ideal to progress into. Great snow record in the lee of Mont Blanc but the off-piste is not so steep and is hazardous in areas.

FLAINE SKI HOLIDAYS

Flaine is the principal resort in Grand Massif ski region. It boasts an excellent snow record as it is in the lee of Mont Blanc. Flaine skiing is best suited to intermediates and beginners and visitors can also access the neighbouring ski areas of Morillon, Samoens and Les Carroz. Flaine offers great access to the slopes from the central resort development but outlying resorts areas are being added to the original resort. Whilst Flaine is convenient it is lacking charm and atmosphere. The resort might well have been used for an early Bond film with the inter-resort cable cars carrying legions of villains. One of the easiest resorts to drive to from the French ferry ports and ideally located for flights into Geneva, Flaine is all about convenience.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

Superb snow record and short transfers

Bad  We don`t like:
Fairly isolated and charmless resort

FLAINE SKI HOLIDAY INFO

The Flaine ski area is blessed with some of the best snow in the region due to its location in the lee of Mont Blanc. And whilst the off-piste my not be particularly steep, there is often good powder skiing available in the winter months. On piste there is a great deal for beginners or intermediates but little for advanced skiers or boarders. The resort of Flaine has some powerful advocates of its 1960’s architecture; so much so that chunks of the centre have protected status. Aside from the convenience that Flaine affords, most find little charming with Flaine itself and new outposts around Flaine are springing up with a very different design brief.
