ISOLA SKI HOLIDAYS

Isola 2000 is one of the southern-most ski resorts in France outside of the Pyrenees. Isola has long been associated with short breaks from Nice (the nearby airport city) and further afield. The possibility of a twin destination break in Isola and its ritzy, coastal neighbour does much to glamorise Isola through association. Unfortunately the resort of Isola is fairly forgettable in comparison, although the snow record is pretty good at the resort level of 2000m and the slopes, though often bathed in southern sun, have a reasonable snow depth record. Accommodation in Isola is mostly slope-side, as are the amenities offered in Isola.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

Good  We like:
Excellent sun record and convenient access to the slopes

Bad  We don`t like:
Remote location and charmless resort

ISOLA SKI HOLIDAY INFO

The skiing in Isola is all above the tree-line and offers 120km of ski pistes that are well suited to intermediate and advanced skiers. Beginners have a good sized beginners directly at Isola. The resort is nothing really to get fond of. Isola is another 1960’s French alpine experiment. Isola lacks real charm and being located above the tree-line, Isola can seem pretty bleak in bad weather. For families the ease and convenience of access to the slopes is a big plus. Isola is no beauty but the nature around it is impressive. The childrens and beginners learning area is located at the resort.

Excellent beginners slope with easy access, very wide and gentle, also long blue and green runs to progress to. Some excellent red runs for the intermediate skiiers, all beutifully groomed, and a few steep mogully blacks. Plenty of off piste especially with the huge amount of snow they've had.

Admitadely the resort is not very attractive but some lovely chalets have been built recently, Chalet du Mercantour, we stayed in one of these, it had great access to the slopes and stunning views. The prices in the resort were a lot cheaper than some of the larger more well known resorts.

Great for families and good entertainement for the kids on the snow, in the peak weeks.

Apres ski prices are inexpensive compared to the larger resorts, and their are a few lively bars.
