MERIBEL THE RESORT

Meribel was the brain-child of Scottish Colonel back in the 1940’s. The age of the resort and its location have done much to shield Meribel from the atrocities of other French alpine developments. The resort is purpose built but given its age and some rational planning; Meribel remains resolutely low-rise and certainly stylish. Accommodation is mostly in the form of ski chalets and a number of these impressive chalets are located on the winding pistes that skirt the resort just beneath the altiport and in Meribel Village. Forests surround almost all of the accommodation which is located on the eastern side of the valley. Facilities in the resort include a leisure centre and cinema, whilst the bars and nightlife are impressive.

REVIEW RESORT AND WIN

MERIBEL RESORT INFORMATION

Meribel is undeniably attractive, has a great atmosphere in the resort centre and some of the accommodation has superb access to the slopes. That said there is a good deal of accommodation that is located beneath the ski lifts and ski buses or accommodation / private transport is required to access the lifts. Meribel can leave the plastic seriously smouldering. Whilst not quite as exclusive as Courchevel 1850 in the next valley, the combination of great nightlife and some seriously steep prices can make the morning sift through the pockets of discarded garments a terrible experience.
