Impressive and extensive area for intermediates but not much for the better skier or boarder. The ski lift system is OK, but gondola doors built for skiers and boarders the size of a swim-suited Kate Moss.

MORZINE SKIING

Morzine certainly favours the beginner and intermediate skier or snowboarder. The main ski area around Le Pleney consists of almost entirely blue and red pistes which offer some interesting tree-lined routes. Advanced skiers or boarders are likely to find little here to really challenge them. From here there is access to the area around Le Ranfolly which is shared with the Les Gets ski area or skiers can access the Morzine ski area around Nyon. This area offers no challenging piste skiing although off-piste and tree skiing is pretty good. Ski passes are available to cover the entire Portes du Soleil ski region in addition to Morzine and there are some interesting ski safaris to fairly distant parts of the Portes du Soleil that are possible from Morzine.

THE GOOD, THE BAD

Good  We like:
Centrally located in the vast Portes du Soleil ski region

Bad  We don`t like:
Not much to test the best skiers and boarders

MORZINE SKI INFORMATION

Morzine is part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski region and has good access to Les Gets and a lift that accesses Avoriaz. One of the downsides of Morzine and the Portes du Soleil is the altitude of the resort and the subsequent threat from climate change. One of the great features of Morzine is the immediate access to Avoriaz. This is easily the highest resort on the Portes du Soleil and whilst the resort is certainly no looker, then it does boast a good snow record. Many guests to Morzine stay for its access to Avoriaz and choose a resort that by comparison is some sort of ‘8th Wonder’, aesthetically.
