Risoul - Vars, France skiing and snowboarding holiday guide.
RISOUL / VARS SKI HOLIDAYS
The twin ski areas if Risoul and Vars are located in the Southern Alps of France, boast a pretty decent height and snow record and offer a good sized combined ski area that is well suited to beginner and intermediate skiers and boarders. The location in the Southern Alps gives Risoul and Vars less exposure than more Northern resorts and as a result the resorts are less popular than they probably would be, given their ski terrain and resort infrastructure. The resorts of Risoul and Vars are purpose built but the architecture whilst not too forward thinking is some way short of the battleship proportions of Aime La Plagne and is softened by the trees that wrap around the resorts. Advanced skier and boarders have to venture off-piste.
RISOUL / VARS SKI HOLIDAY INFO
The twin ski area of Risoul and Vars offer 180km of mostly beginner and intermediate skiing. Tree-lined skiing is possible above both Risoul and Vars whilst higher up there are open bowls. The main resorts of Risoul and Vars are 1970’s creations and whilst lacking any real charm they fall short of some of the atrocities in the French Alps. Forests and their smaller scale help to soften them. The skiing and the resort convenience are significant positives for families. of the two resorts Vars is bigger and offers more in the way of amenities than Risoul, although both offer pretty decent options.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Ideal for beginners, not bad atmosphere either
We don`t like:
