VAL D’ISERE THE RESORT

Val d’Isere is an upmarket and sprawling resort. For a high altitude French resort, Val d’Isere is attractive and predominantly low rise. Wood and stone are the material of choice in the village and sections of the centre are pedestrianised. Val d’Isere is a spread out village and whilst the centre and the satellite resorts around Val d’Isere all have lifts leaving from them, ski buses are required from much of the accommodation. They are regular but often necessary from any accommodation other than that directly in the centre. The other issue of transport is the heavy traffic that affects all but the centre of Val d’Isere. The resort attracts so many guests that cars are inevitably going to cause a problem. The pedestrianised centre of Val d’Isere is an effort to improve the atmosphere.

VAL D’ISERE RESORT INFORMATION

Après ski and evening entertainment in Val d’Isere are impressive. There is a great mix of nationalities that converge on Val d’Isere and the après ski is excellent and international in atmosphere. Restaurants are abundant in Val d’Isere as is shopping and the resort has a definite upmarket feel about it. There is budget accommodation in Val d’Isere, including the resort of La Daille. Whilst La Daille is famously gruesome, it offers excellent access to the slopes and lifts. Elsewhere in Val d’Isere prices can vary dramatically for accommodation and can be painful in the bars.
