Ski Italy for diverse ski regions, stylish ski holiday resorts and great Italian lunches.
APRES SKI RESORTS IN ITALY
For traditional après ski Sauze d'Oulx remains king of the hill. Sauze d'Oulx doesn’t quite deliver the excess of the early 90’s but it still has a formidable nightlife. If browsing shop windows and sharing streets with beautiful people is required then the Italian ski holiday resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo is ideal.
EXTREME SKIING IN ITALY
For skiers or boarders looking for a La Grave, St Anton or Verbier in Italy then they are going to be disappointed. Italy has extreme terrain, like any other nation in the Alps but it is not often accessible directly from the ski holiday resorts there. Cervinia shares the same region as Zermatt but the skiing on the Swiss side of the border is far more severe. Heli skiing however operates in Italy.
FAMILY SKI HOLIDAYS IN ITALY
Short transfers, easy skiing and good access to the slopes are some of the vital ingredients for a successful family ski holiday. Turin in the West of Italy offers good access to a number of regional ski holiday resorts, whilst few ski holiday resorts in Italy offer extreme terrain. Italian purpose built resorts seem to lack the convenience of French resorts though.
SKI HOLIDAYS IN ITALY
Italy offers ski holiday resorts across its Northern border with France, Austria and Switzerland. The Dolomites are considered amongst the most spectacular terrain anywhere, whilst Cervinia is located under the mighty Matterhorn. Resorts can be some of the most exclusive in Europe with Bormio and Cortina d'Ampezzo serving up an abundance of fur clad visitors.
SNOW-SURE ITALY
Italian ski holiday resorts do not offer skiing as high generally as either Austria, France or Switzerland although Cervinia has a top height of close to 3500m and Bormio offers skiing over 3000m. Arabba accesses the Marmoloda Glacier for snow reliability, whilst Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere and Courmayeur all offer skiing up to around 2800m.
