Asahikawa, Japan ski and snowboard holidays.
ASAHIKAWA SKI HOLIDAYS
Asahikawa is the regional city in central Hokkaido, the northern-most main Japanese island, which accesses a variety of local ski resources. Two of the ski holiday resorts that Asahikawa accesses are Furano and Kamui Ski Links. Of the 2 then Furano is the better known and has the bigger ski area. The area in Hokkaido has an impressive snow record and whilst Asahikawa is not mountainous, there are mountains close by to the city. Asahikawa is a small city by Japanese standards but has a good number of restaurants and a regional airport located close by. There are a number of accommodation options in Asahikawa and whilst there is no skiing directly from Asahikawa there are a number of interesting resorts close by.
ASAHIKAWA SKI HOLIDAY INFO
Furano is the best known of the local ski holiday resorts that can be accessed from Asahikawa. Furano has a reasonably sized ski area and an outstanding snow record. The conditions on piste are often excellent and the snow off-piste is a dream. Those visiting Furano need to check with the local tourist board to lawfully gain access to the off-piste. There are tight controls on the terrain out of ski area although a police declaration or use of an official guide are often enough to gain access to the off-piste. Kamui Ski Links is another ski area that can be accessed from Asahikawa. It is smaller than Furano but has a similarly impressive snow record both on and off-piste.
