ST MORITZ SKI HOLIDAYS
One of the best known ski holiday resorts in Switzerland and beyond for that matter, St Moritz blends superb scenery, an immaculate and exclusive ski holiday resort and off-slope activities that are some of the best around. The skiing and snowboarding is mostly high altitude, consists of some 350km of ski pistes and is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The ski holiday resort lacks the intimacy of say Zermatt and offers a resort based on style and exclusivity rather than charm; the setting though is superb, located between a lake and towering peaks. Two separate areas make up the St Moritz ski area although these themselves and sub-divided. St Moritz can be pricy and exclusive, although mere mortals can also stay there.
ST MORITZ SKI HOLIDAY INFO
There are 2 main ski areas accessed from St Moritz and these themselves are broken into two sectors. From St Moritz Bad and St Moritz Dorf the ski area of Corviglia is reachable with the +3000m Piz Nair or the Marguns ski sector available. Intermediate skiing dominates these areas. Corvatsch is the other ski area located around St Moritz and this is accessed via Surlej just outside St Moritz with a ski run back to St Moritz Bad (classified black but in fact a tame black). The ski area of Furtschellas is reachable from the Corvatsch area. In both Corviglia and Corvatsch whilst intermediate terrain dominates, both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders may well be disappointed. The Corvatsch has glacier skiing to ensure snow reliability.
THE GOOD, THE BAD
We like:
Great and extensive intermediate skiing and snowboarding, whilst mere mortals can find ways to survive in St Moritz
We don`t like:
The skiing is heavy weighted in favour of the intermediate and the resort to those with cash to spare
