BRECKENRIDGE SKI HOLIDAYS

The ski holiday resort of Breckenridge offers high altitude skiing and a wild-west type frontier feeling. Breckenridge, Colorado is located about as high as you will find a resort, a staggering 2925m (almost 10 000 feet), with the top lift height some 1000m above. This is seriously high terrain and adjustments to the thin air can be problematic for some. Despite the height much of the ski area is located beneath the tree line and given the weather record of Breckenridge, this can be a great advantage in times of high winds or low cloud. There is a good mix of ski and snowboard terrain in Breckenridge whilst the highest lift in North America, the Imperial Express (reaching 3915m) accesses some impressive advanced off-piste terrain in the Imperial Bowl.

There are 4 sectors in the Breckenridge ski area, identified as Peaks 7,8,9 and 10. The ski areas Peak 9 and 10 are readily accessed from Breckenridge and offer gentle skiing and snowboarding lower down with tougher terrain higher up. The highest lift in North America, the Imperial Express reaches some 3915m although it is possible to complete another 45m on foot to reach the high point of the ski area, Peak 9. Peak 7 is more distant sector and offers a number of intermediate ski pistes that run through the trees. Breckenridge the ski holiday resort is a former gold mining town, now transformed into is well equipped ski resort with numerous restaurants and entertainment. Breckenridge makes much of it pioneer past.
