ANDERMATT SKI HOLIDAYS
The Swiss ski holiday resort of Andermatt offers impressive advanced skiing across 3 separate mountains, close to Zurich. The separate mountains offer compact ski areas and remain unlinked by either ski piste or ski lift. The combined ski area is a reasonable 130km although there are numerous off-piste routes that add to the skiable terrain. On piste, half of the ski terrain is classified intermediate with around a quarter each for beginner or advanced skier or snowboarder. With a top lift height of nearly 3000m, Andermatt enjoys a good snow record. The proximity of Andermatt to Zurich means that Andermatt is something of a weekenders ski holiday resort with crowded weekends but pleasantly relaxed weeks usually.
ANDERMATT SKI HOLIDAY INFO
The 3 separate ski areas in Andermatt include Natschen, Gemsstock and Winterhorn. These separate ski areas are not linked by piste or ski lift although those staying in Andermatt can access both Natschen and Gemsstock with lifts leaving for these areas departing on opposite sides of Andermatt. These two mountains offer the bulk of skiing, whilst the Winterhorn ski area is outside of Andermatt and is accessed from Hospental. Experts should head for the Gemsstock which has a good range of steep and off-piste. Intermediate skiers and boarders have a limited range of terrain in each mountain but beginners do worst with restricted beginners terrain and not ideal intermediate terrain to progress into.
